About Me

Profile picture.jpg

I am a piano, flute and music theory teacher with over 30 years of musical experience and more than 10 years of teaching experience. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree, ABRSM qualifications and have experience teaching children of all ages and abilities, including those with additional needs.

I believe that every child learns differently, so no two lessons are ever the same. Rather than expecting children to fit a rigid teaching method, I adapt my lessons to suit the individual—taking into account their interests, learning style, confidence, energy levels and even how they are feeling on that particular day.

My teaching follows a holistic, simultaneous learning approach, where technique, listening, reading, theory, creativity, improvisation and composition develop together. This means I can build on a child's strengths while gently supporting areas they find more challenging. For example, if a child has a wonderful imagination but finds concentrating difficult, we might use composition and creative activities to keep them engaged while naturally developing the wider musical skills they need.

I have taught children with ADHD, autism and a wide range of personalities, from very shy and reserved pupils to those full of energy. One of the greatest joys of teaching is seeing children grow in confidence, discover their own musical voice and genuinely look forward to their lessons each week.

Alongside my music degree, I have completed the Professional Certificate in Music Therapy for Kids and the Advanced Certificate in Music Therapy for Children with Special Needs. These studies have deepened my understanding of how music can support confidence, wellbeing and learning, helping me create lessons that are inclusive, encouraging and enjoyable for every child.

Whether a pupil is learning simply for the enjoyment of music or working towards graded examinations, my aim is always to inspire confident, curious musicians with a lifelong love of music.

My Teaching Ethos

My philosophy is simple: children learn best when they feel supported, understood and inspired.

I aim to create lessons where every child feels safe to make mistakes, ask questions and enjoy the learning process. By tailoring each lesson to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, I help pupils develop confidence, resilience, creativity and independence alongside strong musical skills.

Music should never feel like a chore. My goal is for every child to leave each lesson feeling proud of what they have achieved, excited to play at home and curious to discover what they can do next.
